First Camping Trip

Kirk and I have been dying to get out and  go camping.  We headed out to Wall Doxey State Park, about 1 hour away.  We left right after dinner on Friday.  Unfortunately, this cuts out one of the best parts of camping:  dinner!--but it worked out better with our short time limit.
We found the place and it was nearly empty--just one other group camping.  We set up the tent and walked around a bit.  Luckily, there were hardly any bugs, just a few fireflies.

It took a bit of work to get Cade to sleep.  We ended up all crawling in the tent around 8:30 and taking turns patting his back until he finally passed out.  I was nervous how well he would sleep and if I would get kicked all night.  He did really well.  Cade did wake up about 5 times, but went right back to sleep with a binky and a pat on the back.  Kirk and I were woken up by rain sometime during the night, but luckily, it was just a sprinkle, not a real Mississippi rain storm.

Cade's favorite thing right now is to walk holding our hands!

The next morning we fired up our new Coleman stove and cooked some pancakes and bacon--a real camping breakfast.  We took the kayak down to the lake to do some fishing.  Kirk let me go out first and he got Cade to sleep for a nap.  When Cade woke up, we switched for a while.  Unfortuately, we didn't get any fish!  Just after lunch, we packed up and headed home, just as the rain set in again.

It was fun and gave us the confidence to go out again.  It was a quick trip, but I'm still happy that we were able to try it.  I'm glad that Cade is getting old enough to do something like this.  He loves being outside so much.  We're attempting to brainwash him young to enjoy the outdoors as much as we do!

Wish we could go camping-- its too hot here. Maybe near Dallas there will be places. Looks like you guys had fun! It's always an adventure getting young kids to sleep in places like that.
